Seven Steps on how to find your purpose at work

My seven steps on how to find your purpose at work are below. Which one works best for you?

1 Go where the energy flows. What projects brings you alive? Start there.

2 When do you enter flow most easily? What topics do you lose yourself in?

3 What intrigues you the most? In what function is your curiosity piqued?

4 Where do you excel? What results come easily to you?

5 What do you enjoy the most? Whats fun and feels like play to you?

6 What do you look forward to doing?

7 What topics are you most drawn to?

If a project, function or topic hits one or more of the above, you are on the right path to finding your purpose at work.

Enjoy exploring!

Leadership at Yale

So where have I been? Because it’s been ages. Two words: America and Canada. I’ll come onto Canada later. Today we start with America.

In October I had the most amazing time in New Haven, about an hour from New York. I went to Yale University  to study Leadership. I met some amazing women from around the world; Ghana, Austria, France, California, Mexico, United Emirates… and the list go on. It was truly  humbling.

I learnt a lot. In fact my action plan has 63 entries.  There was however,  one binding lesson running through all the topics. Weather we were discussing  negotiation, decision making, giving feedback,  innovation or crisis management.

I learnt that good leadership has nothing to do with you and your own personal needs. It’s about being in service to your team  and, the objectives of the organisation. Nothing to do with you!  Not one bit. Being a leader means to serve others. Full stop.

Enjoy!

Oprah on Leadership

I’m really excited to share this video with you today. Oprah is an impressive individual and a personal inspiration to me. She has accomplished so much and overcome many challenges. As her first-hand testimony will show – a lot of hard work goes a long way.

The lesson that most struck me in this video was the importance of her own inner journey to her outward success. Oprah talks a lot about her self reflection. The ‘how’ and the ‘why’ questions behind what we do in work. This stood out to me, as often we think about what we want at work. What we want to be paid. What company we want to work in. What promotion we want next. Oprah talks a lot about mission, giving and contribution through our work. A great lens to look at leadership.

This is an extended video at over an hour long. It’s well worth it.

Let me know what your take aways were.

Enjoy!
