PRECIOUS Conference 2019

PRECIOUS Conference 2019

WHAT AN HONOUR  to talk at the PRECIOUS conference at the end of International Women’s Day Month recently. The  confrance was the very first ever PRECIOUS conference, that builds on the  success of the PRECIOUS Awards, now in their 13th year. The theme of the conference was VISIBILITY. As a speaker, I gave practical tips on increasing visibility for your self as a leader or entrepreneur.

The conference was full of energy. I had the opportunity to talk to some amazing women from all walks of life. It was truly inspiring. I find talking with the audience members is a high point of me spekaing at events. I really get to understand the different challenges women are navigating at different levels of an organisation or growth stage of a business.

One of the stand out lsssons for me was the importance of a community. It was great seeing women support other women and the ideas and contacts being shared. To grow you need the right environment and if you dont have it, go and cultivate it. I encourage you to find your tribe, your family and your support network.

Enjoy buiding your networks ladies.

Why you should show up, imperfections and all.

Over the years, in my practice of private coaching, I have seen how the mind can trick us out of our dreams.

We have all heard that inside voice: ‘If it’s not perfect I can’t do it’… ‘I only meet some of the competencies, so  I can’t apply’.

Within all of us, I believe is a purpose. It doesn’t have to be professionally based it can be social, creative or family-focused.

Either way, I’m always blown away by the power of having a purpose. A purpose is a source of inner conviction. Our inner purpose, helps us show up for what we think is important to us, imperfections and all.

Want to take massive action and stop dreaming of a purpose and actually get one? Find out more here.

Until the next time!

To raise brave girls, encourage adventure

This is an am amazing talk from Caroline on the power of bravery in girls. She was the 15th woman in fire station of 1,500 men.
Caroline talks about the importance of risky play in young girls as is encouraged  in boys.
She notices girls are often taught to be timid and afraid of risk. This can play out in later life as women who don’t speak out, use defrance to be liked and lack of self confidence.
Risky play on the other hand is good for all kids. This develops valuable life skills of hazard assessment, delayed gratification , resilience,  confidence trust in  your decisions.
Now don’t get me wrong fear is a useful emotion, she notes. But not if it’s the automatic response to every situation.
If your looking to take #boldchange check out my Live Free Webinar on April 1st.I will share the top strategies you can implement straight away to smash through fear and say no to staying stuck.

Standing up and be seen

In my final post about   who are acting with  ,  and in keeping with the season of awards ceremony and the #Oscars – its last years Emmys Actress Round Table.

Its a great panel discussion about being a visible woman and bringing your craft to the public domain,  and all that entails. Both pain and pleasure.

It has Kirsten Dunst (‘Fargo’) joined six fellow television actresses for The Hollywood Reporter’s Drama Actress Emmy Roundtable including Julianna Margulies (‘The Good Wife’), Jennifer Lopez (‘Shades of Blue’), Kerry Washington (‘Scandal,’ ‘Confirmation’), Sarah Paulson (‘American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson,’ ‘American Horror Story: Hotel’), Regina King (‘American Crime,’ ‘The Leftovers’), and Constance Zimmer (‘UnREAL’).

They cover:

  • being challenged when stepping up to director
  • roles they won’t play
  • sexism faced by women
  • … and many more great topics

Ok, ok, ok! ’nuff said, get watchin!

So, i’m just back from Manhattan, and came back for one of the great dates of the British calendar, London Fashion week. I had a great time. The stand out moment was meeting the lovely Irish designer Chupi. I picked up a lovely delicate piece that was shaped as an arrow. Its part of a collection called follow your dreams. Thats us grinning from ear to ear. You can check out her pieces yourself here: www.chupi

That day got me thinking about the importance of following your dreams, and how that’s easier said then done. Fear of failure? Live with courage instead, it’s more fun!

Happy summer and, I do hope you enjoyed the Olympics. What a celebration of human courage!

One of the things my clients often talk about is the fear of failure. This is common to lots of us.  I don’t think it  ever really goes away, no matter how successful you get.

So this week I’m posting an amazing video about the Iron Nun. She is phenomenal. She feels the fear and does it anyway. I love it.

After seeing this, the phrase ‘I’m too old’, is never going to cut it.

What does she inspire you to do on your ‘maybe’ list? How can you live a life of courage and fun?

If your looking to collaborate on an inspirational goal, drop me an email here.

From dark can come light

Hello, its the first day of summer. I hope your enjoying the good weather. This is a quick post this week. I attended the Women of the Year Lecture recently, and was introduced to the most amazing woman. I was quite embarrassed that I had never heard of her, given all that she achieved.

Dame Stephanie Shirley had quite a challenging upbringing, having fled Natzi Germany during the war, she  was taken in by a British family, arriving with her siter as a refugee. She suffered great loss as an adult with the death of her only child. There were challenges in business as well for her. So much so, she used the name Steve in business correspondence.

Shirley achieved many things despite these setbacks. She became one of the pioneering female coders in the 60s, her company was responsible for coding the Concorde’s black box. And, when she floated her company she made many of her employees, alongside herself, millionaires.

I’m highlighting Shirley not only because of the amazing things she has achieved in tech, but because her story of challenges were equally important in forming who she became and what she achieved for herself and for other women. Her courageous, and heartfelt discussion was very moving and I recommend her book, check it out.
Enjoy
